> The Art of Being Seen and Heard:No tell me more about YOU?
>  “Oh wow tell me more!” “What was most surprising about that experience?” “That sounds really exciting! When did you decide to take that leap?”
> Turns out, if you ask all the questions, everyone ELSE does the talking,
> I didn’t even KNOW this was my m.o.
> First of all, I am generally curious about people and want to go as deep as they’re comfortable as quickly as possible! (IYKYK! Hahahah!) I see and feel through all the surface stuff and want to get to the goods! I also thought I was just “easy going” “go with the flow” “up for anything” which , BTW, Is true.
> AND
> I would often let anyone else in the room run the conversation. I’d ask all the questions. And then they’d take it away!
> Finally one day, mid deep conversation over dinner, my dear friend looked at me, paused and said “thank you for sharing that. I feel like sometimes I’m doing all the talking and I don’t hear about you. It means so much to be trusted with this.”
>
> Oof! That sentence hit me in the gut. I had been actually dodging the vulnerability bullet by fawning and people pleasing. I not only needed to ask and listen, but I also need to allow space for others to do the same of me. To ask. To listen. To see, hear and know me. It’s a balance and why I consider being seen and heard as a continuous, intentional art form.
> We can’t heal alone. We need others. Now more than ever.
