The Art of Being Seen and Heard:
The Awareness of YOU: Where do I start?
Is this you?"I don’t have time/patience to meditate!"
Then keep reading! There’s a lot of messaging in the news and social media about being in the present moment and “getting out of our head” to “get into our body”.
“How and where do I start? I don’t have TIME for one more thing to do!” Fair. Let’s keep it simple. Not easy…but simple! 🙂
In my private voice studio, Signing Equals LIfe, I aim to bring every lesson about using our voice, self advocacy, wrestling matches with Perfectionism, and every breath exercise back into our daily life. Learning how to walk in our “singing body”, can bring more confidence, presence and awareness to how we breathe, walk and feel our way through the world.
The Lovely Hands Exercise
I assigned this homework to a voice student, wrestling with allowing themselves to enjoy the process of breathing, and of making sounds. Often the work gets focused on being accurate, perfect and ready for all to hear at any given moment. This is not realistic.
We identified a mundane task done often throughout the day: Hand washing
For that 20-30 seconds, alone in the bathroom, calming water running, take this time to find your feet in the ground and notice your breath. How is it moving? Not moving? Stalling? Flowy? Don’t change it. Just notice it.
Find your favorite hand cream/lotion. Favorite smell and feel. Take 20-30 more seconds to put on the hand cream. Notice the texture and smell. Gently rub your hands together and notice your feet in the ground and your breath. Notice the shape of your hands. How they weave in and out of each other.
Take one final breath in through the nose and exhale with a sigh before leaving the bath room
This Lovely Hands Exercise brings easy access to come back to the body, touch from the outside to notice the inside, consistency in the frequency this activity happens and comfort in the way we are providing a “luxury” service. A true self care moment. Tthis body and breath awareness exercise has it all!
Try it for yourselves and notice how much more often you pay attention to YOU, your body and breath throughout the day!
I wanna hear about your experience with this!
